The Savannah cat is one of the most exotic cat breeds in the world. These cats are a cross between a domestic cat and the African serval, and are called first generation (F1) Savannah cats. F2 Savannah cat is the second generation of this breed; it was bred combining the F1 cat and a domestic cat. This cat is also known for its wild appearance due to close lineage to the wild serval, and also inherits many of their wild ancestor’s behavioral traits.
F2 Savannah cat is no doubt among the largest domestic cat breeds. Their lean bodies make them appear even larger than they actually are. They have a short, dense coat with distinct spots and stripes, and the most common colors of this breed are golden, silver, black, and brown. They have beautiful large, upright ears. Moreover, their beautiful eyes come in shades of gold, green, or blue, add to their distinctive look while their medium to long tails, with black rings and a solid black tip, enhance their wild appearance.
F2 Savannah cat has a blend of wild and domestic traits. Their behavior can be quite different from traditional house cats. They are intelligent and quick learners. They enjoy interactive games and could be trained for certain behaviors and actions, from entertainment to simple activities. They are extremely active pets and spend a lot time to enjoy jumping and climbing on trees. F2 Savannahs are also highly loyal and known for forming strong bonds with their caretakers. They chirp or hiss to convey their feelings and emotions.
F2 Savannah cat requires a high-protein diet. Raw meat is the best option to meet their requirements however dry cat food would be given to provide carbohydrates, fats and vitamins to maintain their energy level. Moreover, F2 Savannahs need daily physical and mental stimulation for healthy life. In an apartment we require outdoor enclosure, cat trees, and climbing shelves to keep them active and happy.
This F2 Savannah cat requires minimal grooming; however, time, space, and expertise are necessary for this breed. Weekly brushing is enough to keep their coat healthy and shiny. Further, they need regular nail trimming, ear cleaning, and dental care to avoid any health issue.
Savannah cats are legal in many states but some states do not allow this breed to be owned as pets. So check local laws before getting an F2 Savannah cat.
